Friday Night Lights

The story takes place in the texan town of Dillon, where sport is little less than a religion. The local football team, the Dillon Panthers, is the absolute centre of the community, putting an unusual strain on the shoulders of its young players. Based on the 1994 movie the same name, FNL takes the story to a much deeper level. The most typical episode estructure is a summary of Dillon’s week, from Monday to Friday night, the climax of the story, when the games are played. Through the course of the seasons we’ll witness racial tension, political fights, economic decadence and, above all, the mentality of the most traditional Texan society, with a scripts that weaves a rich and believable southern tapestry. At the center of the action will be the Taylor family, headed by Eric Taylor, the coach of the Panthers, who will often act as a surrogate father for the players, many of them coming from disfunctional families. Though he’s often the target of sour criticisms, he doesn’t shy away from his responsibilities as coach and mentor. His wife, Tami, starts off being considered by everyone a mere complement of her husband, but she’ll gradually find her own space. Of course, the different members of the team also play vital roles in the story. In its five-season run, SNL has become of the most critically acclaimed series in american TV, being followed by fans and non-fans of sports alike, thanks to its superior realism and character developement, although an appreciation of football will help enjoying it to its full extent. The show received several Emmy nominations through the years, winning the award in categories such as Direction, Casting and Writing.
