It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the story of four “friends” who operate a rundown bar in the brotherly city of love. The gang consists of twins, Dennis and Dee, and their friends Charlie and Mac. The four of them are serious underachievers that have known each other since childhood. The show centers on their efforts to manipulate not only one another, but other people in their social circle as well. The show premiered on F/X in 2005 and has since added Danny DeVito to the cast, boosting its ratings quite a bit. DeVito plays the twins father and has brought a lot of comic relief to the show. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia garnered a mature rating and is said to push the envelope with its depravity and self-centered characters. Dennis, Dee, Charlie and Mac are self-absorbed and have very high opinions of themselves. Their high opinions however, don’t stop them from getting into scrapes that often are uncomfortable and hard to get out of. The show gathered a cult following its first season by tackling controversial topics and the true depravity of the show. Although you would think the “gang” would be close knit they will quickly stab each other in the back to further their own careers or social lives. What makes It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia so comical is the elaborate schemes that every member of the gang comes up with to manipulate one another, and others, for different reasons. Sometimes the plans they come up with are solely for their own entertainment and to watch other people squirm. Although, they are a serious set of underachievers, the three men own the bar and Dee is a bartender there, leaving them free to pursue the one thing they seem to love more than anything else in the world…trouble.
